They embrace the modern do-it-yourself attitude in surf culture, surf lifestyle and craftsmanship. They constantly strive to minimize their impact on the environment and to protect the oceans and waves. Vissla makes sustainable, high-quality products with innovative materials. Their board shorts, for example, are made from coconut shell; Every year the earth gives us more than 20 billion coconuts to use whenever we want.
Usually the inner part of the coconut is processed into food, medical and cosmetic products. The outer shell is considered waste and thrown away. This is an inefficient process that causes unnecessary damage to the environment.
Now it appears that coconut shells mixed with polyester is a perfect material to make boardshorts out of. Thanks to a process called Cocotex®, the discarded "waste" is converted into an active carbon fabric. And the properties of this fabric are everything you could wish for in a pair of surf shorts.
The environment is also considered when making the wetsuits, the neoprene they use is made with a base of limestone, this has much less impact on the environment and also has the added advantage that it is a lot more elastic!
